After some days of hectic negotiations, Forest Green Rovers have finally accepted Barnsley’s bid for defender Liam Kitching. Barnsley were said to be interested in the defender after he enjoyed a great season last campaign, but Forest Green Rovers’ reluctance to seal a deal made the negotiation a long one.
Both teams have however decided to be in agreement as the offer tabled by Barnsley has now been reportedly accepted. The offer made by Barnsley is said to be a sum of £500,000 and is said to be higher than the previous bid that was immediately rejected.
Kitching has made a name for himself after coming through the ranks of the Leeds United youth setup. He has now agreed to make a sensational return to Yorkshire after the details regarding his transfer have been ironed out, according to Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey.
Kitching is already vast and experienced having played in both the National League and in the League Two following his two different loan stints at Harrogate Town prior to his permanent transfer to Forest Green.
In the ten appearances he made for Simon Weaver’s side in the 2017/18 campaign, he scored three goals. He also played a part in helping the club secure 6th position in the League table having finished the season as a scorer of four goals in 39 appearances.
After he completed a permanent switch away from Leeds to Forest Green, Kitching became a regular starter in his first season playing in the League Two, featuring 36 times in all competitions in the process.
In the current campaign, Kitching has played a total of 15 matches in all competitions so far. Despite having established himself as a top figure in the League Two this season for his club, he has not made an appearance in his club’s last four fixtures. He also missed the Saturday win against Carlisle United.
