FANS FIGHT BACK

Barnsley players were receiving a lot of stick from the fans during the recent match against Huddersfield Town and manager Danny Wilson says that the supporters were right to express their displeasure after the team suffered a 5-0 defeat in this match. Even though Barnsley started the encounter in good fashion by creating a lot of chances, they capitulated after two goals from Huddersfield in the first half. There were three more goals set to come in the second half in a defeat that places them bottom of the table.

Even though Barnsley are just two points away from safety, it remains to be seen if the players will be able to recover from this poor showing against a mid-table Huddersfield side. Wilson, though, reckons that the players can shake off this poor defeat and look at the upcoming match.

According to http://www.ftbllr.net, Barnsley took close to 2000 fans for this match, but this disappointing showing meant that most of them were chanting against the player’s midway through the match. Substitute Stephen Dawson was involved in an altercation with one of the supporters after growing tired of the abuse.

He had to be restrained by some of the teammates in order to prevent the situation from escalating further. Wilson says that the players will deliver in the next match against Nottingham Forest.

“The fans are passionate and have every right to be. When you get results like this, it’s not very easy to take. In the first half an hour they were singing our names. That’s football. The fans wanted us to win; it was a derby game and you can’t argue with them at times. You have to understand they have followed the club through thick and thin and you have to respect their opinions at times,” said Wilson, whose team have just one win in the last five.

WILSON GUTTED

The manager of Barnsley, Danny Wilson, is gutted by the fact that his team’s match against Charlton which was scheduled to take place on Saturday got postponed.

The 54 years old Englishman is still looking for his first win as Barnsley boss. He was hoping to open his winning account at Charlton, but, the poor pitch conditions didn’t let him do so. After a late inspection, the referee decided that the match would be postponed which left the fans as well as Wilson in utter disappointment.

According to Wilson, the referee is not at fault. It’s his responsibility to consider the safety of the players, but, the fans and the management of the two teams should have been given the prior information that this could happen.

Talking to the reporters after the official announcement being made, the Tykes boss said, “A large no. of supporters had turned up and it would have cost them a considerable amount of bucks to make their way here. There must have been prior information that the match could be postponed.”

“When these sorts of things happen, you do feel frustrated, but, again, as a manager or as a player, you can’t do anything.”

“Honestly speaking, I had expected the game to take place because there are good pitch protection facilities available here. But, unfortunately, that wasn’t the case to be. I can understand referee’s decision though. You don’t want the players to get injured because of the condition of the pitch.”

After taking charge at Oakwell a few weeks back, Wilson has so far managed 5 matches. The Tykes have secured just 3 points out of those 5 matches with the help of three draws.

Barnsley’s next match is a championship encounter against Blackpool FC next Saturday.
